American Pickers’ Mike Wolfe and Danielle Colby Mark a Major First in 15 Years

After 15 nonstop years on the road, American Pickers stars Mike Wolfe and Danielle Colby are finally doing something they’ve never done before — taking an extended break from filming.

The milestone comes as American Pickers Season 27 wrapped up on August 20, marking the end of another long chapter for the beloved History Channel series, which first premiered in 2010. For Wolfe and Colby, the finale didn’t just close a season — it opened the door to a much-needed pause.

“We haven’t done that in 15 years, so that’s going to feel good,” Wolfe told People in March, referring to the planned filming hiatus.

For more than a decade, the cast and crew have worked at a relentless pace. According to Wolfe, the longest break they had ever taken before was just about a month around Christmas.

“For 15 years, we have just been going and going and going,” he explained. “I think we’re going to have at least four or five months off, so it’s going to be good.”

While American Pickers is on pause, Wolfe hasn’t slowed down creatively. In February, he made a career pivot by making his film debut in The Reckoning. Just a month later, he revealed he would be returning to the History Channel with a brand-new series titled History’s Greatest Picks with Mike Wolfe.

“They asked me to do another show, and I felt that it was on brand with what I’ve been doing with them for the last 15 years,” Wolfe said. “So I was like, ‘Hell yeah, let’s do this.’”

The new show will dive deep into storytelling, with each one-hour episode covering four different discoveries. While the series centers on picking and uncovering historic objects, Wolfe emphasized that the heart of the show lies in the stories behind the finds. As of now, a premiere date has not been announced.

Outside of television, Wolfe has also expanded his business ventures. He currently operates two short-term rental properties, one of which opened in May.

Danielle Colby, who uses they/them pronouns, has also been busy during the hiatus. The longtime American Pickers star recently opened the Ecdysiast Arts Museum in Davenport, Iowa — a space dedicated to preserving and celebrating the history of stripping. In addition, Colby continues to perform burlesque under the stage name Danny Diesel, regularly turning heads with bold and revealing looks shared on social media.

As of now, the History Channel has not confirmed whether American Pickers will return for Season 28, nor has a premiere date been announced. Still, fans remain hopeful that Wolfe and Colby will return refreshed after their well-earned break.

After 15 years of relentless travel, filming, and picking, this pause represents a rare and meaningful first — one that may ensure the future longevity of a show that has become a staple of American television.
