Born on December 3, 1975, in Davenport, Iowa, Danielle spent much of her childhood in Chicago. Her upbringing was far from conventional. After three intense years filled with injuries, Danielle was forced to retire—but not without leaving her mark.

Before she became a reality TV fixture, Danielle made her name in the world of burlesque. Her first performance happened almost by accident—during a drag night at a gay club in Chicago. Initially unsure about baring her body, her confidence grew after becoming a mother. Inspired by icons like Margaret Cho and Cecilia Helen Walker, she immersed herself in the art form. Under the stage name Dannie Diesel, a nickname from her godfather, she formed her own troupe in 2009 called Burlesque Le Moustache. Many of the dancers were former derby teammates, and together, they performed across the U.S., turning heads with shows like Burlesque-A-Pades, St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, and Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered.

She even opened a school in Chicago—Danny Diesel’s Bump and Grind Academy—where she taught the next generation of burlesque performers.

Danielle’s love for vintage runs deep. Over the years, she has amassed a fascinating collection of antique stage costumes and rare memorabilia, including Josephine Baker’s banana skirt and Lily Langtry’s 1890s ensemble. Whether it’s flea markets or estate sales, Danielle is always on the hunt for hidden gems—often disappearing for hours, completely engrossed in her search.

The American Pickers Era

Danielle’s transition to television came through her long-time friend, Mike Wolfe, the mastermind behind American Pickers. Though producers were initially skeptical of her fit in the show, Mike insisted she was vital to its appeal. After sending an iPhone-filmed clip of the two together, the History Channel agreed—and the rest is history.

As the show’s office manager and lead coordinator, Danielle played a key role behind the scenes. Her cold-calling efforts were pivotal in lining up leads for Mike and co-host Frank Fritz, enabling smoother filming and richer content. Frank later suffered a stroke in 2022, leading to a brief reunion with Mike in 2023 that helped mend old wounds.
