Virgin River fans rejoice! Netflix is now streaming another swoon-worthy series from beloved romance author Robyn Carr.
Sullivan’s Crossing debuted in 2023 on CTV and airs in the U.S. on The CW. Now, less than a month after the series’ season 3 finale, the first two seasons are available to stream on Netflix.
Based on Carr’s book series of the same name, Sullivan’s Crossing follows Maggie Sullivan (Morgan Kohan), a neurosurgeon who returns to her hometown of Timberlake, Nova Scotia, amid a flurry of legal issues with her medical practice in Boston. Her boss is being indicted for billing fraud, and she’s being sued for negligence.
In Timberlake, Maggie aims to reconnect with her estranged dad, Sully (Scott Patterson), who runs a campground and inn. His handyman is the handsome Cal Jones (Chad Michael Murray), who charms Maggie and shakes up her relationship with Andrew (Allan Hawco), the surgeon she’s dating back in Beantown.
“The books look at what it means to come back home and reconnect with your past,” executive producer Christopher E. Perry previously told Entertainment Weekly. “There’s a little bit of everything in the show from medical drama, to unrequited love, with a little action thrown in as well.”
Sullivan’s Crossing serves as a reunion of sorts for Patterson and Murray, who played memorable roles on Gilmore Girls. This series is likely scratch a similar itch, what with its cozy blend of drama, romance, and small-town intrigue.
The show’s arrival on Netflix is likely to spawn a slew of new fans, so we thought we’d help usher you into the titular campground. Read on for EW’s Sullivan’s Crossing cast and character guide

Canadian actress Morgan Kohan began her career with one-off roles on series like Murdoch Mysteries (2017) and Star Trek: Discovery (2018) before leading When Hope Calls (2019–2021), a spinoff of Hallmark’s long-running show When Calls the Heart.
Kohan stars on Sullivan’s Crossing as Maggie Sullivan, an embattled neurosurgeon looking to rehabilitate her career while escaping to her Canadian hometown amid legal troubles.
“When I first was introduced to the character and to the first script, I really connected with the big city/small town pull,” Kohan told Collider in 2023. “I fully resonated with that and the ambition that Maggie has, and a little bit of the perfectionism, and I’m a bit of a control freak. I resonated with a lot of her.”
Chad Michael Murray as Cal Jones

Chad Michael Murray will forever be fondly remembered by millennials thanks to his roles on some of the ’00s most obsessed-over shows. He was a staple in Gilmore Girls (2000–2001), Dawson’s Creek (2001–2002), and One Tree Hill (2003–2012), the latter of which he led for six seasons.
Murray also starred in several films, including Freaky Friday (2003) and House of Wax (2005), but it’s the small screen where he continues to make his mark. After leaving One Tree Hill, he starred on series such as Agent Carter (2015–2016), Star (2018–2019), and Riverdale (2019).
Speaking with TVLine in 2023, Murray addressed his reunion with fellow Gilmore Girls alum Patterson, saying that working with the actor was “one of the things I was very much looking forward to when I came on board.”
He went on to discuss the strong bond between their characters on Sullivan’s Crossing. “Cal looks at Sully, and I think he admires Sully in such a way because he sees a little bit of himself in Sully,” Murray said. “He sees that Sully’s created this very homey vibe with Sullivan’s, and I think Cal wants a lot of that, and he admires Sully for how he’s done it.”
Scott Patterson as Harry ‘Sully’ Sullivan

After early roles on Seinfeld (1995), Silk Stockings (1996), and Will & Grace (1999), former baseball player Scott Patterson landed the role of diner owner (and Lorelei’s love interest) Luke Danes on Gilmore Girls (2000–2007) and its 2016 revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.
Since then, Patterson starred on series like Aliens in America (2007–2008) and The Event (2010–2011). He also played the no-nonsense FBI agent Peter Strahm in the Saw franchise (2007–2009).
On Sullivan’s Crossing, Patterson plays Sully, the owner of the series’ titular campground. Though he’s beloved by the community, he’s got a few skeletons in his closet. When the show begins, Sully and his daughter, Maggie, haven’t spoken in 15 years, since he and Maggie’s mother got divorced.
“He’s got a heart of gold,” Patterson told Today of the character in 2023. “He’s always lending a helping hand where needed,” Patterson said. “He’s a man of few words, but he connects with people across a broad spectrum of the town that he lives in. So he’s kind of the unofficial mayor of that place.”
He also spoke on the character’s darkness. “Sully’s had his heart ripped out and there’s a void there,” Patterson continued. “And he’s filling it in ways that aren’t necessarily good for him. So he’s got some demons and he’s got to deal with reality. He’s got to be honest with himself.”
Tom Jackson as Frank Cranebear
