Deon Derrico Breaks Silence on Divorce Rumors – Reveals a New Dating Scandal, Is He Really in Love?

Doubling Down With the Derricos star Deon Derrico is sharing a rare update on his life after divorcing Karen Derrico.
“At this point, we are just working it out as a family collectively,” Deon, 54, shared on the Wednesday, November 19, episode of “The Sarah Fraser Show” podcast. “No, I am not ‘dating.’ She is not ‘dating.’ We have talked about how that would look because our biggest concern is our children. It is a unique, complicated, different, esoteric, and I cannot think of enough words to describe it because of the 14 children.”
In June 2024, Deon and Karen, 45, confirmed their split in a statement to Us Weekly. At the time, the pair said they remained “unified in the parenting of our 14 beautiful children.” A judge approved the split that same month.
When podcast host Sarah Fraser asked Deon to address speculation that the divorce was fake or for TV, the former TLC reality star couldn’t believe such chatter existed.
“We tried to keep it hidden. We filed in [a small town in] Nevada,” he said. “I personally believe that someone who took in our paperwork notified TMZ, and that’s how the story got blasted everywhere. That was just a shock because it was two or three weeks after the divorce was filed. We felt like we were good when three weeks had passed and we didn’t hear anything.”
In his rare podcast interview, Deon explained that his priority remains coparenting 14 children, who each have individual needs.
“Being married, having one child and divorcing is a challenge. Being married and having two children? It’s a challenge,” he explained. “But when you quantify that to 14? We want to make sure we’re sensitive to each of their individual needs. We want to answer their individual questions because they’re human. They have questions too, like, ‘How did this happen?’”
Fans met the Derrico family when Doubling Down With the Derricos premiered in August 2020. TLC cameras rolled as Deon and Karen raised four sets of multiples — including a set of quintuplets, triplets and two sets of twins — who were all conceived naturally. (Multiples are prevalent on both sides of their family.)
Since cameras stopped rolling, Deon has picked up new employment as a school bus driver to help support his family.
“My nine to five, I drive a bus,” he said. “I went back to work. I have not worked for over 20 years. I had to go back for medical benefits, for the children and financial benefits. So that has changed a lot for us.”
Once the show came to an end in 2024 after five seasons, fans have been wondering if the family will ever document their lives again for the small screen.
Deon didn’t completely close the door when he shared, “We are being contacted by many production companies, other networks.”
Until then, Deon hopes to keep fans updated on his reality via social media.
“#TheDERRICOs is officially free agents and meeting with other Networks for our New upcoming season of TheDERRICOs,” he wrote via Instagram on November 1.
