The former “Big Brother” contestant and her boyfriend spent a lot of “The Amazing Race” battling from the back of the pack. From the premiere episode to this past week’s leg in Budapest, Kat & Dunn found themselves fighting to not be the last team to get to the mat.

They made up some ground in Budapest, though. They were ecstatic to see three other teams during the overnight train ride. Then they started the day in Budapest strong with Alex’s horse-rearing skills.

Then it was a Detour that took them down, in a skill that Kat knows very well: dance. They struggled to learn a traditional folk routine, despite Kat having a dance background. However, the counting threw her off.

Kat & Alex finally completed the Detour, and it was a battle with Jack & Chelsie to the mat. They were the last team to arrive at the Pit Stop and check in with host Phil Keoghan, so they were the fourth team eliminated on “The Amazing Race” season 38.

Unseen Taxi Issues Were Their Downfall

However, there was a specific unseen moment that was the downfall of Kat & Alex? That is what the couple told Parade.

Kat, who not only finished in 10th place on “The Amazing Race” but also finished in 10th place on “Big Brother,” said a taxi issue put them behind everyone else. She explained, “When we left the horse stable, we were with seven other teams. And then it shows us behind. It doesn’t show what happened. We could not find a taxi for 30 minutes.”

While CBS showed the issues Jas & Jag were having with getting a taxi, it seems that Kat & Alex were having their own issues with getting a taxi to stop for them.

Kat told Parade, “So we ran out of the horse stables, and we asked somebody if they knew where we could find a taxi. And they said, ‘Well, if you run that way, there’s going to be more civilization over there. So you could probably find a taxi there.’ So we ran in this other direction, and it took us 30 minutes to find a taxi. It’s impossible to hail taxis in Budapest.”

Alex added, “I had to literally run out in front of them to not let them go.”

As it turns out, Jack & Chelsie walked out of the horse stables, and there was a taxi that came right by and picked them up. Kat continued, “We lost a lot of time trying to find a taxi. By the time we got to the dancing challenge, we were the last ones to arrive. So when there’s already so many teams there and it’s loud and everyone’s learning the dance and they’re running the music, it’s just we’re already at a disadvantage.”

However, the couple still struggled with the dance, right? According to Kat, not so much.

She told Parade, “It wasn’t really that hard for us to get the dance, contrary to how it looked on TV. But if we would have gotten a taxi sooner, we would have had more of an advantage.”

It was the taxis that were their downfall, as Alex explained, “We were running into the dance. We saw Jag and Jas. We still saw Paige and Izzy literally coming out. It was such a close race. We put the pressure on. But the taxis were very hard. And, I mean, ‘The Amazing Race’ is also about luck. Transportation-wise, how things go, a lot of it is also luck. So, I mean, at the end of the day, we did the best that we could. We didn’t take that long learning the dance.”

Kat chimed in, “It is not my dancing ability! Let that be known. I’m a good dancer!”
